With all of the commotion from the Super Bowl (good game Patriots!!), we need to take some time out and pay homage to Sir D’Angelo for gracing the SNL stage with an amazing performance from his most recent album, Black Messiah.

He starts off his first performance with “Really Love” wearing a poncho over a suit with an Old West-style hat. We also got a chance to see The Vanguard, including guitarists Jesse Johnson (of The Time) and Isaiah Sharkey, Prince drummer John Blackwell, the Who bassist Pino Palladino and keyboardist Cleo “Pookie” Sample.

For his second performance of “The Charade”, he steps out paying his respects to Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner by wearing a hoodie and shirts that read “I Can’t Breath”.
