New York’s coveted Hip Hop & R&B station, HOT 97 just received yet another blow to the core of their overall existence. First, it lost it’s matriarch, Angie Martinez a few months back to rival station Power 105. Then it’s veteran DJ, Funkmaster Flex caused a MAJOR riff in the Hip Hop community by declaring war on one of culture’s largest pioneer’s, Jay-Z. And now, after 17 years, another staple, Cipha Sounds is chucking the station the deuces.
Yikes!
Cipha’s PR team The Legion Media Group, just released the following statement:
Cipha Sounds Leaving Hot 97:
Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. Cipha Sounds said, “After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I¹m changing my relationship status from ‘it¹s complicated’ to ‘single’. It¹s been an amazing ride – from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie¹s seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge.”
What in the world is Hot 97 gonna do now?
