Da Brat dishes with the Rickey Smiley Morning Show on the divorce between Nick Cannon and her close friend Mariah Carey and performing at the Soul Train Music Awards with Missy Elliot and Lil’ Kim; and her new reality show geared towards reuniting original female hip hop MCs and providing a platform for new artists.
Da Brat also shares thoughts about the newer generation of female hip hop artists like Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea. Plus, her opinions about the upcoming the Aaliyah biopic produced by her former adversary Wendy Williams.
DA BRAT ON NICK & MARIAH’s DIVORCE:
“She’s good on taking care of the babies and raising them she’s got a lot of help and she’s ding fine and yes we are still friends and everything and Nick is a great person too. I’m not going to take nothing away from him because she’s one of my best friends. You know what I mean? They you know had their issues just like every married couple do and they are moving forward. She is and so is he.”
DA BRAT ON IGGY AZALEA AND NICKI MINAJ – [ROCK T]: “What are you thoughts on some of the leading rappers in the game today like Nicki [Minaj] and Iggy [Azalea]?
DA BRAT:
“I like Nicki and I like Iggy. People tell me that Iggy sound a lot like me. I don’t hear it but so many people tell me. I mean I feel like she’s got her own style. Brat is going to Brat. There’s only one Brat. Twitter – only one Brat! Instagram So-So Brat. But I am not really worried about it. I take it as a compliment. If you are mimicking my style of sound like me in anyway you are just letting people know that you love Brat.”
RICKEY SMILEY: “Because everybody look up to somebody!”
DA BRAT: “Exactly!”
DA BRAT ON THE UPCOMING AALIYAH BIOPIC:
“I’ve been hearing different things but what kind of upset me a little bit is that they didn’t talk to her family because who would know her most to me would be her family , her brother – her other and it kind of hurt my feelings that they didn’t talk to them to see who the real Aaliyah is you know talk to Missy or talk to Timbaland or talk to people who worked with her or who is really, really close to her. I don’t know who they got their information from and it might be feasible but to me it might have been better to get it from her parents – somebody who has known her since birth.”
RICKEY SMILEY: “What was she like and where would she be in her career if she was still living?”
DA BRAT:
“Right now if she was still living she would be an amazing actress you know I think she would have awards and accolades from being an actress – a great actress because she was doing really well in that. She was getting ready to be in the Matrix she had a whole lot of things lined up before he tragedy.”
DA BRAT ON WENDY WILLIAMS:
“I hope [the bio pic] is really good because Wendy Williams is producing even though Wendy Williams slayed me when my court stuff came out and said I should be thrown under the jail something that I did seven years ago like her a** ain’t never made no mistakes but we ain’t going to talk about that.” “I hoping that it’s going to be good and they portray Aaliyah in a great light and I am kind of rooting for Wendy to do well too on this production.”
