Self-described as social media’s head puppeteer, music industry insider and Fly Girl, Karen Civil is a force to be reckoned with. At the amazing age of 26, she has held enviable posts as Social Media Coordinator for Lil Wayne’s YMCMB camp, Digital Marketing Manager at Beats by Dre and Head Bloggerati of her own KarenCivil.com.

Pynk Magazine caught up with Karen to talk, day-to-day life, keeping her integrity and being taken seriously for her craft.
    On her day-to-day like?
Even though I live in California, I still operate on East Coast time. I get up at 6a, blog for a few hours, then head to the Beats by Dre Office at 11a.m. In the evenings, if I am not attending an event, I am back at my office – Always Civil Enterprises.
On How she get people to take her seriously?

It’s not easy. It takes time and it takes hard work. When you are a woman in this industry and a pretty one, most people will assume that they can get over you. Men think, “let me try to date her.” You have to learn to put on a certain guard or shield and let the people around you in the industry know that you are there for business – whether it be conducting an interview or getting a sound bite for a post. I learned that a woman has to try to make it that men and women are comfortable and develop a friendship or a brother/sister relationship with people.  I have great relationships with several artists and it’s strictly business. The average person will assume that ‘she must be doing xyz with this artist.’ But it’s hard work and the artists appreciate my site. They understand what I bring to this industry which works great for me.

On How she maintains her brand integrity?

When I started my blog, it was about who I thought was going to be the “next up.” People I thought deserved to have the spotlight on them have their voices heard. Being able to help people’s careers – such as J Cole, Drake, Missy Hustle – is awesome. I don’t post everything though. To me it’s more about quality than quantity. If your music is good and relatable, that’s how I choose.

    -Stay Fly!
